Dangers of Phthalates

by Rebecca Maringer | 04/04/2024

so what even are phthalates? let's break it down- technically speaking they are “a salt or ester of phthalic acid.” when added to plastics they increase their flexibility, transparency, durability and longevity. phthalates are found in hundreds of products, including children’s toys, perfumes, soaps, food packaging and air fresheners.

when air fresheners include phthalates, you’re risking them being inhaled or absorbed into your skin. why is this dangerous? in a study done by the Guardian, phthalates were linked to numerous health issues such as asthma, ADHD, breast cancer, type II diabetes, neurodevelopmental issues and behavioral issues.

sound like something you want in your air freshener? for us, that’s a hard no. this is why all of drifts scents are phthalate-free. we use natural essential and fragrance oils. no extra additives. keeping your air freshener the safest and healthiest for you.

FYI: in a study done by the Natural Resources Defense Council (NRDC), 12 out of 14 air fresheners found on a Wallgreens shelf contained variable amounts of phthalates. stay safe and healthy, shop phthalate-free.
